Back in 2003, KTM took the LC8 V-twin motor from their flagship 950 Adventure, and stuck it in a big, gnarly supermotard. The 950 Supermoto eventually became the 990 Supermoto, but was ultimately dropped from the lineup with KTM's next big motor upgrade. And that made the crew at RATicate Racing sad. So when the Californian shop got a crashed 2015 KTM 1190 Adventure R in, they took the gap
The 990 was also the first KTM to feature ABS. 2013 – 2016: 1190 ADVENTURE & 1190 ADVENTURE R. The arrival of the KTM 1190 Adventure and KTM 1190 Adventure R in 2013 heralded a new era of technology and versatility for KTM in the Travel Enduro segment. Sophisticated electronics – married to improved ergonomics and a radically more powerful
1190 R vs 1090 R. Just want to check that I'm spotting the differences correctly! I believe the 1090 R has less power at 125 bhp, no centre stand so slightly lighter, no lean assist ABS which I think the 1190 R has. I think the 1090 R has improved front suspension and have gone to a PDS at the rear.
Haven't ridden a 1290 but put 11000 miles on an 1190 which I suspect is similar to the 1290. Yes, you still know you are on a twin. Yes, it still prefers 4k+ on the tach. No, it doesn't buck around and sound like someone shaking a box of rocks under 4k while under load like the 990. The newer ktm twins are better than the 990 mills in every way.
The 17-20 1290's were prone to setting fire to your legs if your going slow in high heat (25c plus) they were better than the 1190's to some degree (I owned both at same time) I fitted the insulated rear headers to both my 1190 and 1290 and they help a bit.
Touratech makes the KTM aluminum top box (and panniers), it's just a 38L Zera Pro. Yeah, gleaned that from reading some other threads. Looks like you can't key them to the KTM key but that isn't the end of the world. Though I think it is Zega. iirc Zera makes the cobalt-60 reactor fuel for the LC8. #6.
R = 83 @ 9250 RPM. RR = 83 @ 10500 RPM (figures from BMW website) From the torque figures, the RR has 165 rear wheel horsepower while the R has 128. Higher RPM torque = more horsepower. BUT, and here's the but, BMW have retuned it (detuned is a bad word) to have more low and midrage power which is why you're able to power wheelie it in 4th.
A high-performance replacement air-filter kit for KTM Twins. Rottweiler has been specializing in KTM twin cylinder performance parts in the recent past and has developed an intake system that eliminates the restrictive stock airbox and air filter element and replaces it with a large open-foam filter that covers the carbs or throttle bodies.
