Mine leaked too. This is not uncommon at all in our gtis. Mechanic pros I went to saw that VW only installs 6 out of 8 bolts on the RMS and my leak occurred right where one bolt was left off. If ur ding tranny work, replace the RMS and bring extra bolts. Gl.

As for sticking with OEM and not one of those metal aftermarket ones. The lower half is still plastic and using a metal filter cap can actually weld it together. Plenty of guys found out the hard way on forums and groups. Buy the proper filter housing socket too.
Notes on Step 2: Remove the radiator fans first. All four oil cooler bolts are 6mm Allen. The top two bolts are a royal pain in the ass, you'll need 6-inch Allen keys. Not a normal Allen key with a 6" extension, you'll need an actual long-ass Allen key. Squeezing the upper rad house will expedite coolant drainage.
Autozone carries M1 ESP in 5qrt jugs for around $34, ship to store and pick up or ship to home, still need 6qts and a filter so prices are still pretty reasonable. Thought an update might be in order, AutoZone has the oil change bundle and you can get 5qt of the new Mobil ESP X3 0w-40 + STP filter element for $39.
This is the same for both metal sump and plugs and plastic sumps and plugs on the MK7 Golf platform as far as the erWin documents say. So for the small cost of the drain plugs I'd recommend changing them each time. I picked up five of them from my local V.W. dealer recently for €10. Certainly not worth saving €2 per oil change and risking
YAPS.
